Today and Tomorrow: Child-led Research
A few months ago we featured the ongoing work of the Child-led Research project – including some fantastic research projects that the children were working on. The original story is available here.
Tonight, after four months of hard work, children from the Child Led Research program are sharing their research with the Commissioner for Children and Young People, Megan Mitchell, as well as their family, friends and community representatives.
The project has not only generated knowledge and skills for children, but gives us an opportunity to hear the children’s voices.
Working with children in this way not only demonstrates Burnside’s long-standing focus on children’s rights and needs, but exemplifies our intent to continue to find new ways to work in genuine partnership with children into the future.
Their research is contained in the book online (PDF – 1.3 MB): “Today and Tomorrow Research Program: Children and Young People Investigating the World”
It was a privilege to attend the celebration tonight and watch nine amazing young people completely take over the show. They introduced the speakers and presented on their research findings and experiences with confidence, self belief and great humour. These are voices that deserve and need to be heard.
Thanks to the researchers, to the very proud families and Burnside staff celebrating with them, and to the Commisioner for Children and Young People for being our guest. Special thanks to my colleagues Samia, Tara and Angela who made this project happen. Wow!
